Third time lucky – Khushbu Thadani

Third time lucky

When I was younger, my food habits were probably every parent’s worst nightmare. The only way I would eat vegetables was in the form of tomato sauce on my pizza or if they were the filling of a vegetable pie. That too, I would happily devour the puff pastry without any problem while a majority of the veggies would be left on my plate. In fact, I remember this one time when I was at my aunt’s house and I ended up paying her maid £5 to eat my brocolli. Hmmm I wonder if my aunt ever found out (sorry Aunty Menaka).

With my halo shining, I can proudly say that in the last 6 years I’ve done a total 360. Just call me G.I. Joe (Jane?) when it comes to veggies- I’ll try anything. For the longest time, I really didn’t enjoy avocado- I found it tasteless and hence pointless, which is such a shame because avocado is a mega nutritional powerhouse. It:

*Contains 30% more potassium than a banana. Potassium helps prevent HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE, COLON CANCER, & HEART DISEASE.

*With 10g in only just 1 avocado, it is packed with FIBER.

*The monosaturated fats in avocado help to improve FAT LEVELS in the body and lower CHOLESTEROL.

*By increasing your satiety levels, avocados can help with WEIGHT CONTROL.

*The oils found in avocado help replenish our MUSCLES and naturally moisturise our SKIN.

These benefits, which are just amongst a few, surely outweigh the high caloric content of avocados. Looks like eggs better bring their A-Game because it’s gonna be a nutritional showdown between these 2 foods ;).

Long story short, I decided to give it a third chance yesterday in my salmon maki and cha-ching!! Now I see the fuss: it’s so rich & creamy, and adds a fabulous texture..psssh just when I thought my salads couldn’t get any better. So guys, in the name of avocado, keep experimenting with nutritious foods which you seem to have a mental block against. As our bodies are constantly evolving, there’s no reason why our taste buds can’t follow suit.
