Quit running away from exercise… – Khushbu Thadani

Quit running away from exercise…

If the thought of hitting the gym fills you with dread or if you simply just “can’t be bothered” to engage in any other form of exercise, here’s a little motivation to put those trainers on:

On May 1st 2010, Rosie Swale Pope completed her personal challenge to run 27 marathons in 27 consecutive days.  And if that alone isn’t enough, the lady is…wait for it… 63 years old!!  This story has left me with a feeling of both admiration and supercharged motivation.  Despite impressive fitness levels, her quest was, by no means, a walk (or should I say run) in the park.  After wearing through 4 pairs of running shoes, Rosie’s torn ligament and knee injury forced her to rely on painkillers to cross the finish line…or should I say the 27th finish line.  That’s a grand total of 707 miles (1,137km).  And here I am feeling smug about the 8 kilometres that I ran this morning.

Other than gaining a massive sense of achievement (and full proof that she shares genes with Superwoman), Rosie raised money for two hospices that mean a lot to her.  I really do take my hats off to her, especially as this is not the first time she fulfilled something of this nature.  A few years ago, she also completed a 5-year run around the world to raise money for a prostate cancer charity after her husband died of the disease.

…if you’re still wimping out from your daily exercise, I’m afraid there’s no hope!
