Food, fitness & entrepreneurship – Khushbu Thadani

Food, fitness & entrepreneurship

Hey guys! How was your weekend?  I started my Saturday attending an Entrepreneurs Connect Breakfast event at The Table hosted by Ellevate.  Ellevate is a global network that connects professional women at all stages of her career.  The guest speakers were:

  • Vibha Kagzi – Founder and CEO of ReachIvy.  Essentially her company guides students to get accepted into top tier educational institutions abroad.
  • Nazia Vasi – Founder and CEO of Inchin Closer,  an India-China Language and Cultural Consultancy that seeks to bridge the information gap between the 2 countries.
  • Gauri Devidayal – Owner  of The Table a.k.a. my favorite restaurant in Bombay.

Just for the record, I am  not sponsored to write this post.  I left feeling so inspired and uplifted after hearing about each woman’s journey setting up their ventures and life as an entrepreneur!   I know quite of you who read my blog have set up or are in the midst of setting up your own business so I wanted to share a few key points that stuck out for me:

  • You’ll know you’re ready to set up your own business when you are so passionate about the idea that you let it consume you.
  • If you’re seeking, you can draw inspiration from various environments.
  • Not everyone needs to jump on board as an entrepreneur- it’s okay to be an area expert.
  • Don’t approach your business as an experiment and something you’ll try and see how it goes. You need to be ready to fully commit both mentally & physically to see results.
  • You can’t sit back – you need to constantly up your game.

I really felt like this event re-lit a fire in me!  Aside from that, my weekend involved plenty of eating out. There are some weeks in Mumbai where I eat at home all week and others where I’m eating 4-5 meals out- last week was the latter.  Oriental food has been sounding so good lately & Pa Pa Ya’s Asian Bistro menu did not disappoint.  Almost everything we ordered tasted great, but my fave had to be the Lobster Sriracha Buns:

Lobster sriracha buns

Let’s be honest- anything covered in sriracha is going to be good, even better when it’s lobster.  For dessert we ordered the Ice Cream Mochi Balls, which was a first for me.  Initially I was a bit skeptic but I enjoyed it a lot.  The squidgy gelatinous rice/ice cream combo worked well together.

Apparently I was all about the ice cream & trying new places this weekend as I also checked out South Bombay’s new gourmet dessert parlor Papacream.  As amazing as a ‘doughwich’ (ice cream stuffed doughnut) and exotic a Mexican Cheddar ice cream with nachos sounded, I had my first taste of liquid nitrogen churned ice cream in the form of…wait for it…cereal milk ice cream & banilla (banana + vanilla) ice cream topped with Nutella.  Obviously we wiped both cups clean!

I’m planning to put up a whole weight lifting-related post soon but overall I’m absolutely loving it.  It’s such an exhilarating feeling to get stronger and be able to lift weights which you couldn’t just a few weeks ago.  I managed to squeeze in a great shoulders & triceps workout with my trainer on Saturday afternoon.  In case you want some ideas, it looked something like this:

10-minute warm-up on the treadmill followed by:

  • 4 sets seated dumbbell press
  • 2 sets dumbbell front raises
  • 3 sets machine lateral raises
  • 2 sets close-grip bench press
  • 2 sets cable push downs
  • 2 sets rope tricep push-downs
  • 2 sets skull crushers

*Aim for 8-12 reps in each set

Of course tailor the above according to your requirements. I had some time to kill afterwards so I finished it up with a 20-minute walk on incline on the treadmill.  And because Sunday’s were made to be a day of rest, I spent the first half of the day lying horizontal on my bed which was fan-freakin’-tastic!

Before I ramble any further, fill me in about your weekend:

What did you eat?

What did you work out?

What did you do?
